Do You Know The Way To St. Tropez?

Okay, so I know the song sings about San Jose, but when I think
about St. Tropez it makes me want to burst out in song.  It's no
wonder it's been a playground for the rich, famous and Hollywood
elite all of these years.  But, even us shallow in the pocketbooks,
unnotable and weak in the artistic way can appreciate this
beautiful place.  Maybe it's the weather, the water,...

...the art that dots along the marina...

...or the yachts sitting in and around the harbor.

Even the fish at the local fish market seem prettier, and I
am not one to think of fish positioned on ice as a pretty sight.

Next best thing to the fish market is to make your way to the
Le Marche Provencal on Tuesdays and Saturdays from
8:00a.m. until 1:00p.m.  This large outdoor market takes
place in the center of town on the Place des Licea and offers
local products such as olive oil, spices, vegetables,
Provencal fabrics, tunics, jewelry, pottery and a
sprinkling of antiques.  It is a great way to mix and
mingle with the local while collecting wonderful
items from the area.

There are numerous places to eat and some of the best are:
AunCaprice des Deux in the older part of town.  This romantic
place is a favorite among locals.
Le Cafe is the oldest brasserie in St. Tropez.
Cafe Senequier is eternally popular and offers great
people-watching.
Spoon Byblos serves Mediterranean cuisine.
Alain Ducasse provides dining and dancing until dawn
at Caves du Roy at the tony Hotel Byblos.
La Voile Rouge is said to be Bruce Willis' favorite.

Hotels vary from small, intimate ones like Hotel
Sube which overlooks the marina to tony Byblos
Hotel where the famous Caves du Roy rocks until
dawn to the old-Hollywood haunt of legends like
Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth at Hotel Le Yaca.
Just outside of St. Tropez is the area's largest hotel
with 118 rooms, the Chateau de la Messardiere,
which sits on 25 acres with views of the French
Riviera that attracts many of today's
Hollywood elite.

Shopping is in abundance here with couture shops and
many other shops to tempt your wallet.  Some of my picks are:
Gas is full of great jewelry that won't delete your savings.
Galeries Tropeziennes is the place for eclectic housewares
and oversize bolts of fabric.
Spartela and Couleura Espadrilles sell classic French
espadrilles in more colors than you can imagine.
Pouterie Augier have beautiful Provencal urns and
other clay craftmanships.
Atelier Rondini has been making beautiful sandals
in St. Tropez since 1927.

My favorite restaurant in St. Tropez is Cave L'Escale
which sits on the marina.  With beautiful views of the
marina and yachts along with it's contemporary, fresh
decor and sandy beach floors, it's no wonder it's one
of George Clooney's favorite restaurants.

Food that just melts in your mouth served with some of
France's best glasses of wine will surely make your day.

I DO BELIEVE I FOUND MY WAY TO ST. TROPEZ!
