Ole' San Antonio!

My husband and I just got back from attending a cousin's
wedding in San Antonio.  It had been a few years since I
had been there and I had truly forgotten the beautiful
flavor of San Antonio.

Steeped in it's Mexican heritage, I found myself wondering
 if my trip down I-35 had actually taken me across the border!

The colors burst everywhere you turn.

It's a feast for the eyes!

But in case you find yourself still hungry, wander down
to Augie's Barbed Wire Smokehouse at
3709 North St. Mary's Street.

I figure if it's good enough for these guys in uniform,
then it's good enough!

Now that's what I'm talking about!  A full plate
of delicious, tender barbecue and a cold brew
to wash it down with!

And for dessert, the sounds of some great music!  We were
lucky enough to have this venue as our dinner with family
and friends the night before the wedding.  It was a
perfect night under the Texas stars with good food, good music,
good friends and fantastic family!

If you've never been to San Antonio, you just
have to visit the River Walk.  It is bursting with
color, food, music and drink!

A little Venice "Texas Style" with a
boat ride down the River is a fun
experience and a great way to hop from
restaurant and bar to restaurant and bar!
After all, you don't want to exercise all
of that great food off!

Every sign along the way entices you to come in and enjoy.

Sitting along the River Walk is a great way
to soak in some great people watching.

Beautiful architecture and fountains adorn
the River Walk.  My favorite time is in the morning
because it is so quiet and you really get to enjoy
the sounds of the water.

You will never go hungry on the River Walk.

La Villita is located by the River Walk at Presa Street and East
 Nueva Street.  There you find some great shops and art galleries
 that will surely please anyone looking for anything "Texas".

This past weekend just happened to be the kick-off to Fiesta.   It's an
11-day celebration that started many years ago to honor the memory
of the heroes from the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.  It has
grown into a "Party with a Purpose" as over 100 local non-profit
organizations and military units put on over 100 events throughout
the city making it the largest event in San Antonio.  During this time
you will get to enjoy music, culinary flavors, botanical exhibits, historical
home tours, Mexican rodeos, parades, art shows and carnival rides just
to name a few. 

You will find these festive attire all over the
streets, shops and hotels in celebration of
Fiesta.

We wandered down to Market Square at Santa Rosa Street
and Dolorosa Street to enjoy the live music, food vendors and
the multiple food, home accessories, jewelry and
clothing from Texas and Mexico.

Food vendors located outside of Market Square are lined
up and down the sidewalks.

Every shop is full of such bright colors that you just
can't help but be happy.

A stop at La Margarita which is located near
Market Square was in order.

After all, all of that shopping, music and fun can
 make a girl thirsty!

Wandering back to our hotel, we came across
the beautiful Fernando Cathedral.  We stepped in
to take a look at the entombment of the heroes of the
Alamo and came across this wedding being held in
this gorgeous cathedral.

Our day ended with our cousin's wedding which was held
at the Witte Museum.  It was a wedding full of celebration and
fun!  It wouldn't seem right to go to a wedding in San Antonio
and not have a mariachi band.

Who doesn't tear up during that "first dance"?  

We dined on bistec tacos and other delicious food from La Gloria Ice House
and danced to a fabulous band under the stars on a perfect
Saturday night.  It was a great celebration for a wonderful couple!


I think I've fallen in love with San Antonio all over again!
